In 1968, Paul Robert Cohen wore a shirt that said “Fuck The Draft.” This 19 year old male was subject to the draft for the Vietnam war that was occurring at that time. This act was said to be in violation of Section 415 of the California penal code. Section 415 prohibited citizens from using offensive conduct to disturb the peace of other individuals or a community. Under this violation, Mr. Conen spent 30 days in jail. Section 415 had the ability to prevent actions that ‘disturbed the peace.’ As we can imagine, most things can be put under 'disturbing the peace.' The case rather quickly went up to the Supreme Court. Conen won the case as a 4-3 decision. We believe this case was a huge victory for the freedom of expression. That is why we designed this shirt to pay homage to our ability to both express, and stand up for what we believe in. In 2017 we are on the brink nuclear warfare. It is time to stand up for the future of not only humanity, but the world. Fuck Nukes.
